Rob G's Career Bouncing Back After Family Tragedy

Rob G's Career Bouncing Back After Family Tragedy

Imagine you are a Latin kid growing up in Houston, TX the land of Screw, Rap-A-Lot and Swisha House and you want to rap as a career. You record, and you grind and you do what you have to in the streets to keep body and soul together, and, later, to support the wife and son you now have. You are doing everything you have heard it takes to get on and you know that you can spit. Imagine that you are putting in work but it isn't really going the way you'd hoped, then, lo and behold, along comes a label, Latium Records, that is pushing Latin artists and making money at it - you just have to be a part of that. You record and you get in their face but they feel you aren't ready yet; so you stay recording and you stay in their face until one day label founder, Charles Chavez, tells you that you are ready and brings you on board.

Imagine that you are now in the game with a good showing on an MTV Rap Battle Championship, a successful mixtape campaign leading up to the eventual drop of your album on a major label, features in all of the right magazines and a banging single and video all under your belt; you are on your way. Then, your wife gets very sick and is diagnosed with gastro-intestinal cancer. You had already lost your father to cancer at 12 so you know the struggle that lays ahead and you try to stay on the career path that is finally going in all the right directions and stay present for both your sick wife and your son, who really need you now.

Eventually, your wife is no longer able to care for herself or your son. The effects of the cancer treatment, often worse than the disease itself, are proving to take their toll. It is time for you to step up and be there with your family full time; to make your wife as comfortable as possible until the end. Everything you have worked for has to be put on hold and, after many months of struggle, your wife passes; but you are there and she passes peacefully. Now all thoughts of rap must be set aside as you assume your new role as a single dad.

For Houston's Rob G, this scenario didn't have to be imagined, it is the story of his life. Sadly, Rob's wife became very ill at the pinnacle of his music career and he glady stepped down and stayed by her side for the duration. He lost her on January 17, 2008 and has since been juggling attending to the needs of their son, whilst working towards his re-emergence as an artist.

Not one to shy away from hard work, and adept at bouncing back from loss, Rob G is set to drop his debut album, The Inauguration, on August 26th, on Latium Records/Universal Republic. A video for his promo song For the Hood ft. Rick Ross will be shot in the coming weeks and the song is beginning to emerge on the airwaves. Rob has led a hugely successful mixtape campaign over the past year or so; something he calls his 'campaign into the streets', with nothing short of 6 tapes - the perfect set-up to The Inauguration - and had numerous songs with Houston's finest (Trae, Slim Thug, Lil Keke, Paul Wall.)

It is finally Rob G's time, and he is more than ready. Barring natural disaster, this time nothing is going to stop him from taking his rightful spot as both a great Latin artist and an unforgettable rapper.

Big shouts to the homie Deep for sendin' this information over its always nice to know some personal aspects about the artist, it helps you enjoy their music more. I'm very happy to see Rob G is still makin' music, I know first hand it is very difficult to deal with the type of things he has been through. Below is a remix to his song "For The Hood" that I premiered on the site about a month ago, it features the big baws Ricky Rawsssss. Peep it!
