Mr. Undercover RnB Chops It Up With BBB!!!

I was very fortunate enough to get a chance to chop it up with perhaps the illest R&B DJ in the game, DJ 2Mello AKA Mr. Undercover RnB. This Jamaica born, Baltimore-based DJ has been doing his thing since he got in the game in 2003, so much so that he won a 2008 SEA Award. Peep what 2Mello had to say about the current political fuckery, the mixtape and DJing game and much more!

I'd like to thank you for taking the time to do the interview 2 Mello, how's it going man? How's life treating ya?

Pretty damn good man, the Father is blessing me so im not complaining

For the BBB viewers who haven't been able to familiarize themselves with Mr. Undecover RnB please give the folks a formal introduction.

Well my name is DJ 2Mello aka Mr. Undercover RnB from Baltimore, I've been in the mixtape game now for a little over 2 years just trying to consistently put forth good RnB music and projects for the masses.

When did you officially start djing and making mixtapes and why did you choose this career path?

I started DJing in '03 learning, went professional I.e. The clubs about 8 months later started mixtapes in June of '06. Music has been and always will be a love of mine especially RnB. I was brought up in church so I know good singing and good music. Djing and mixtapes as an artform allowed me to express my self on a national and worldwide stage and show people that I know good music

You lived in Jamaica during your childhood, how did the sounds you heard there affect your musical taste when you moved to the states?

It Didn't affect it at all, Reggae/Dancehall music is in my blood that will never die lol, so no matter where I am in the world that's not gonna change.

The game is seeing various DJ/mixtapes coming out of the woodwork every day. What do you think of the current state of mixtapes and DJing in general?

Well I choose not to knock the next man's hustle or the game as a whole. DJs are always saying the game is messed up, but they do nothing to try and change it especially for themselves. I try to stray away from the prototypical style of mixtapes and stay in my lane and do what I feel. My thing is if you're not a part of the solution then you're a part of the problem.

You are apart of perhaps the biggest independent music movement in the game, Team Afficial. How did you link up with Geolani and Team Afficial?

I've known Geolani for almost about as long as I've been doing mixtapes, I saw the grind of the Team Afficial family spoke with Lani and he put me down with the dj sqaud and I've been carrying that on every since.

Your continuous grind and hustle earned you a 2008 Southern Entertainment Award for Best Party/Dance Mixtape, how did it feel winning that award?

Man I was shocked!! When Janiro called my name for the award I looked @ my wife and went "ME!!" Lol. Exciting and humbling all at once, just proof that hard work pays off.

You've tore up the club scene on the 1's and 2's in the Baltimore/Washington DC area, what are some other places you would like to DJ at and why.

Wow I would love to rock a party in NY and just about anywhere good music is played man I'm not picky at all lol

How does it feel knowing your mixtapes are responsible for babys being made? Have any women asked you to pay them child support from gettin pregant from your tapes lol?

LOLOL oh my you are crazy for that one! No I've not been asked that yet and hopefully won't be becuase the wife would have something to say about that!! Lol

BBB cliche interview question, who do you want to win the the election? If you could sum up the job the Bush Adminstration has done in their time in the office how would you do so?

Obama hands down he in my eyes is the best candidate for the job there is NO other alternative. Bush is a complete idiot who has taken 8 years of the country's life and led it down a very destructive path, we all see the fruits of his labor the suffering and torment he has caused the American people. There's no excuse for his stupidity and its time for him to one himself. Btw he's still a millionare when he leaves office though, there won't be any suffering for him...

I agree that Bush is an assclown, the job he's done in Washington DC has been awful in my opinion, speaking of Washington DC, you will be partaking in this weekends events at the Million DJ March at our nation's capital. What do you and all the other DJ's hope to accomplish at the march?

Simply being heard. It's easy to torment the dj and not look at what he or she brings to the table. I think this is a great opportunity to let our voices be heard.

Hopefully you accomplish that and much much more, the DJ is a very essential part of the music game, What are some of the upcoming projects you have coming out that the RnB lovers/Mr. Undercover RnB fans will enjoy?

"Good Times" a cd I did with Dj Cashis Kay hits the streets this weekend. Miami Kaos will be blessing me with another hot cover for a Mario project im doing with him and rapmullet.com. I won't say too much more, gotta keep people guessing lol.

Indeed, you must build the suspense lol. Any closing words for the BBB viewers?

Well first off I appreciate BBB for the look on this interview thanks a lot! Shouts to the wife Barbara always standing by me 100 percent, Big Chew and Tapemasta my mentors in this game keeping me grounded, shouts to my circle, DJ Rhude, DJ Hevehitta, Grand Larceny and all the other DJs I deal with on the regular, shouts to all the stores that show me love, Jay what's good!!
