Reks Interview Via Sixshot.com!

Every once in a while hip-hop fans get lucky and an album is released that shakes up the game and breathes some new life into it. We all can consider ourselves especially lucky if hip-hop happens to be in a serious slump, which it is. The album that shook things up this time around was Grey Hairs by Boston native Reks.

Already being crowned the best album of the year by critics this project brought hip-hop exactly what it needed. It brought a touch of 1996. It brought beats by DJ Premier. It brought messages and most importantly it brought us the inner most thoughts of super lyricist, Reks. Sixshot.com caught up with Reks to discuss Grey Hairs, what’s wrong with hip-hop, and Nas.

Sixshot.Com: Reks, this album is getting rave reviews. People are saying “Grey Hairs” is the best album of the year. How does this feel?

Reks: Yeah, it’s crazy man. It’s a dope feeling and I really appreciate it. Statik and me put a lot of time into putting this album together. We were really focused and it’s just incredible to be getting the response that we’re getting.

Sixshot.Com: What was the process like putting this together?

Reks: We didn’t just want to make X amount of tracks and make it an album. We just got in the lab and worked. I was goi ng from Miami to New York and Miami to Boston like two weeks out of the year. We would just bang out eight or nine records at a time. Making dope music is always our goal. Statik is someone I appreciate musically and he’s also a friend so it’s cool working together. It’s great making music with someone you respect and someone you hold dearly. That’s a friend of mine, you know? I got to work with some of the greatest of all time on this project.
