On This Day...In 1991...ATCQ Dropped "The Low End Theory"...and In 1996 The Roots Dropped "Illadelph Halflife"!!!

Today we have a double dose of "On This Day..." You may remember on September 11th two great albums dropped on that day, well two great albums dropped on this day, but in different years. First album I will be reminiscing on is A Tribe Called Quest's album "The Low End Theory." On September 24th, 1991 the Queens, New York rap crew of Q-Tip, Phife Dawg and DJ/Producer Mr. Muhammad dropped their second studio album. "The Low End Theory" spawned such legendary tracks "Check The Rhime" and my favorite ATCQ song "Scenario." The video for that track is really cool, some real tight cameos as well. All in all I would say this album is legendary status, I mean everyone has their own opinion, but when you think of 90's hip hop in NYC A Tribe Called Quest definitely comes to mind. Another album that has been deemed noteworthy was released by the coolest band in hip hop, which is The Roots.

On the same day, but 5 years later, The Roots dropped their third studio album entitled "Illadelph Halflife." The Philadelphia, PA collective, which consists of MC Black Thought, Drummer ?uestlove, Electronic Keyboardist Jamal Gray, Percussionist F. Knuckles, Guitar player Captain Kirk Douglas and Bassist Owen Biddle blessed Hip Hop fans and music lovers alike with a quality album. Quite frankly, I think these guys are one of the best live bands period, just not hip hop bands. The song off this album that I know you real hip hop heads will have a vivid memory of is "What They Do." The video for the song is even doper, both conceptual to say the least. A few other tracks that come to mind when I think of "Illadelph Halflife" are "The Hypnotic," "Episodes," and "Universe At War." Besides the Roots album that came out this year, I would say this one is my favorite.

Below you will find a few tracks from each of these albums and videos for ATCQ's "Scenario" and The Roots' "What They Do." Also you will find purchase links. ***NOTE*** I apologize for not going into more depth with both of these releases, but I have been super busy lately, and it appears I will only get busier, but I will continue to make these types of posts, it's important to pay homage to the albums in the passed that paved the way for today's releases.
