This New York MC Has Come To Shake Up The Game! Fuck With Five!

Rap artist “Five” (Sean Foskey) has entered hip hop with the welcome reception that most artist dream to have. Five has always rapped but didn’t pursue it professionally until his manager Shake of Stone World Music Group/Fontana/Universal approached him about being part of his record label. With his first single “Show Stopper” featuring Slim from 112, hitting New York’s Power 105.1 airwaves and mid-west stations like Cleveland’s 107.9 FM and Louisville’s 96.5 FM; Five is set to make his mark in hip hop. “The single “Show Stopper” is officially releasing on January 13, 2009 but DJ’s are asking for the music in advance. It’s a great spot to be in as an independent company with major distribution,” says co-owner Big Tyme of Stone World.

In addition to his single with Slim of 112 Five has also received positive feedback with his underground single “We Don’t Believe You” featuring Hell Rell. The hip hop world is buzzing about Five. The release of his new project “Star Power the EP” will be the first full digital release for Five. The debut album from Five features production from Terrace Martin (Snoop, Murs, DTP), Joe Warlick via The Specialists (Dr. Dre, Nate Dogg, Dru Hill, and Lil Bow Wow), Ski Beats (Jay-Z and Camp Lo), Jon Famous (Jim Jones and Grand Hustle), and Blue Fire. He worked with producers that understood his style and direction. In addition to the lead single Show Stopper, the release of the Blue Fire produced song “We Don’t Believe You” featuring Hell Rell, which just hit the streets is receiving an overwhelming response from the blogosphere and the streets alike. The song is all about the haters that get jealous about the things people work hard to obtain.

Five feels that there needs to be a balance in hip-hop. “I feel there is a place for discussing the effects of poverty and street life because it is still real and relevant and shouldn’t be trivialized by those who aren’t struggling” says Five. However it needs to be done with realism and not just for shock value and entertainment. We tried to select a beat that wouldn’t over power the lyrics and meaning of the song. Although considered a lyricist Five understands the importance of making what he calls “Big Records” that have mass appeal. With the Terrace Martin produced single “Hands High” featuring J. Black of Dubb Union, we made a party song for the ladies. It paints a picture of the all important first two minutes of the conversation when you meet a female in the club, which as everyone knows determines everything. Terrance Martin who has produced for artists like Snoop, made the beat for the song. The song has a hard club beat but is meant for the grown and sexy. This project is going to grab the interest of that old school rap lover that loves great lyrics and those that want to be entertained with good music, as well as the young rap lovers that are looking for music to just bop their heads to in the car. To have Star Power you must have a magnetic presence, be talented and diverse, and connect with the masses. That’s why my album is titled “Star Power the EP”.

Five was born in Upstate New York; he received his name during his five year prison term. But after speaking to Five you will realize there is so much more to this young intelligent emcee with the hard exterior. He attended college, values family and has the street credibility that most emcee’s pretend to have. Five is called the “General” and “Mr. Star Power” by those who know him best. “Out of all the misconceptions that exist, you can’t make yourself a leader, you can’t make people respect you, being a general is an elected position, it’s a privilege that I take seriously in art and in life. “Some artists have swag, I have presence, Hip Hop raised me and I feel blessed that I can present the positives and negatives of my life experiences through music” says Five. Again, I want to thank everyone for supporting my single Show Stopper featuring Slim of 112; it will be available in all digital outlets (including iTunes) on January 13, 2009.
