Hustlas make it happen. This is one of the mottos M.A.V (pronounced Mav) lives by. Born Delante Higgenbottom, the Racine, WI native was raised during the golden era of Hip-Hop. Like many of the youth at the time, he looked at the hip hop culture as a way to express his thoughts and vent his frustrations. He was influenced early on by artists like: Run-DMC, LL Cool J, Eric B and Rakim, Ghetto Boys, and NWA. He began writing rhymes and poetry before he was a teenager, but it wasn’t until he moved to Virginia that he really started to notice his talent.
Rhyming came easy to M.A.V., so he didn’t take his talent as serious as others thought he should. He was more focused on hustling in the streets; making music was fun but it wasn’t a priority. This mentality all changed in the fall of 2002 when he was brought up on drug charges and sentenced to three years behind bars. It was there, in prison that he decided to use his time to perfect his craft. He started drawing inspiration from the events of his life and turned those experiences into well-crafted songs. Soon after, his real life dramas, clever wordplay and street-centric rhymes would become favorites of his fellow inmates and earned him a large following out in the yard.
Now, back on the streets and more focused than ever, M.A.V is set on making a name for himself in the music industry. He is currently working with respected local artists and musicians, such as: DJ Rob, DJ Sham and producer Ren of No Gimmicks Productions. With the release of his first mixtape, “Hustlas Make It Happen” and his strong presence online, M.A.V and crew have no doubt they will do just that, and make it happen.
